Happy Birthday Elvis

Posted at 8:43 pm under Uncategorized

Today would have been Elvis Presley’s 74th birthday. I grew up with Elvis in our house because mom loved him so much. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been singing his songs and trying to sound like him. Of course no one can sound as good as the “King of rock n roll” but I have fun trying.

A couple of years ago, I decided that I was going to be more outgoing with singing and performing in public. As I mentioned in my 7 things post, I went for about 20 years without doing any public performances, but I have decided life is just too short.

Last October when a student approached me about emceeing the school Halloween Dance, I was reluctant. But when he offered to purchase costume for me, I accepted, knowing what character I wanted to be. I’d always wanted an Elvis jumpsuit, so that’s what I asked for and received.

I think it’s important to be involved in student activities, and ultimately that was what convinced me to do this particular job. I live far from campus, and have young children which prevent me from participating in many extra-curricular activities.

But I had a ball hosting that dance, and towards the end of the evening, I even sang “Burnin’ Love”. I was surprised how the kids were all dancing along with my antics. I’m amazed that over thirty years after his death, people still love Elvis and his music.

Yes, I know I’m wierd. If you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you’ve probably figured that out. But like I said before, life is too short, and I’m going to have fun while I’m here.

Has you know me alittle…. I am quite the overaged kid, picks his nose and like to mess with science kits. and my computer thing. just like my art, music and writing…… I am just unique and that is a good thing

Bill, keep the day job. Just kidding. My B day is Jan. 8 and my kids got me a CD of The Kings Christmas songs. So yeah, I’m a fan.
I am publishing a novel about a veteran teacher in a middle school, called “You’re Never Too Old For Space Camp”. Should be out in about 3 months. You and your readers may enjoy it. I am posting the first chapter on my blog this week. Take care.
